Quentin: MRI reveals small tear in shoulder

An MRI revealed a small tear in the labrum of Carlos Quentin’s left (non-throwing) shoulder. Quentin, who first felt discomfort after taking an awkward swing on March 16, will not be allowed to swing a bat again until March 26. He will continue to take part in all other baseball-related activities, and the D-backs are hopeful he’ll be ready by Opening Day. If not, the contingency plan would be to slide Eric Byrnes over to right field and start Scott Hairston in left.
